Measuring quality
Many aspects of educational experience cannot easily be measured:
the quality of relationships; the enthusiasm and commitment of staff and students;
a stimulating and purposeful working atmosphere; sensitive and caring support and
guidance; a pleasant environment; a wide range of extra-curricular activities.
Equally, there are other important aspects of College life which can be measured
independently.
Examination Results
Hills Road has always enjoyed a reputation for outstanding advanced level
examination results. For the details, please check out
the examinations section of this site.
Added Value
There has been considerable recent interest in attempts to measure the value
which schools and colleges add to their students. In particular, the Universities
of Newcastle and Durham, the Audit Commission and the DfES have developed models
for comparing examination results at advanced level with those obtained at GCSE
level.
Each of the models developed since 1990 has demonstrated that students at Hills Road achieve
significantly higher grades than would be expected on the basis of the GCSE results with which
they join the College.
