This class is suitable for enthusiastic beginners with a good level of fitness and individuals who already have some experience of yoga and/or have already attended the Yoga (Holistic) - Mixed Ability class at Hills Road and are looking to develop their practice further.
This class will build on the classic yoga poses (asana) which combine strength, balance and flexibility. Students will be introduced to variations of these poses in a fun exploratory way. By approaching familiar poses from a different angle and by exploring more demanding postures this class will offer students challenge and variety.
Modifications and progressions will be offered throughout the class to ensure each student is practising at a level they are comfortable with (a short medical and lifestyle questionnaire is given prior to the first class).The atmosphere in class is very much inclusive and non-competitive allowing students the opportunity to practise mindfully, developing body awareness and challenging themselves accordingly.
The focus on breath awareness is integral to yoga and will be a key component of each class. Students will be introduced to different pranayama and breath awareness techniques which focus on calming and centring the brain and body. Each session will end with a period of relaxation.
Mats are provided but feel free to bring your own if you have one. Please dress in comfortable clothing that does not restrict movement. It is recommended that you do not eat heavily in the two hours before class. You may wish to bring a bottle of water with you and a warm layer or blanket for the relaxation.
